Juanfran schrijft emotionele brief na dure Champions League-misser

Atlético Madrid-verdediger Juanfran heeft op Instagram een brief geplaatst die bestemd is voor de fans van de Spaanse club. Aanleiding is zijn gemiste strafschop in de Champions League-finale tegen Real Madrid van afgelopen zaterdag.

De 31-jarige Spanjaard was de enige die zijn penalty niet wist te benutten, waardoor Real met de Champions League aan de haal ging. Na afloop liep Juanfran naar het vak met de Atlético-fans om zijn excuses aan te bieden. Wat volgde was een staande ovatie. Hij bood maandag dus opnieuw zijn excuses aan.

'Ik zal jullie steun nooit vergeten nadat ik jullie om vergeving vroeg. De tranen van duizenden Atlético-fans hebben me ontzettend geholpen om het verlies en verdriet een plekje te geven. Ik wil jullie bedanken voor alle steun.'

Ook doet Juanfran een belofte met het oog op de toekomst. 'Twee jaar geleden vertelde ik dat Atlético terug zou keren in de Champions League-finale. Nu beloof ik dat Gabi, onze aanvoerder, vroeg of laat de Champions League-beker ooit omhoog zal tillen. Dat gaan we dan samen vieren. Ik hou heel erg veel van jullie. GO ATLETI!'

 

Mensaje de Juanfran a la afición: Hola atléticos, Le he pedido al club dirigirme a todos vosotros a través de esta carta para deciros todo lo que siento. Nunca olvidaré vuestras muestras de afecto cuando me acerqué a pediros perdón. Ver mis lágrimas reflejadas en los rostros de los miles de rojiblancos que llenabais ese fondo del estadio sirvió para sobrellevar la tremenda tristeza que me abatía en esos duros momentos. Al igual que el apoyo de mis compañeros, técnicos y toda la gente que formamos esta gran familia. También quiero daros las gracias por creer siempre en nosotros y, sobre todo, por demostrar que ser del Atleti es algo muy especial, diferente, y que nuestro corazón late más fuerte que ningún otro. Hace dos años os dije que volveríamos a una final, ahora os digo que Gabi, nuestro capitán, levantará la Champions más tarde o más temprano y lo celebraremos todos juntos en Neptuno.
