Update: NEC-doelman wil toch niet stoppen: 'Heb nog een aantal jaren de tijd'

NEC-doelman Joris Delle heeft wellicht zijn laatste wedstrijd in het profvoetbal gespeeld. De sluitpost werd donderdag uit de selectie van de Jupiler League-club gezet en hoeft volgens de Gelderlander niet meer terug te komen. De ochtendkrant meldt op basis van ingewijden dat Delle overweegt om na dit seizoen te stoppen met profvoetbal.

De doelman kreeg van trainer Pepijn Lijnders te horen dat niet hij, maar reservedoelman Marco van Duin de wedstrijden in de play-offs gaat keepen. Delle werd uit de selectie gezet omdat hij zich 'niet meer op kon laden'. De Gelderlander weet dat Delle (28) er na dit seizoen mogelijk helemaal mee stopt.

Naast Delle is ook Suently Alberto uit de selectie gezet. De van PSV overgekomen verdediger 'voldoet niet aan de gestelde normen' en heeft van Lijnders eveneens te horen gekregen dat hij voorlopig niet welkom is in de Nijmeegse selectie. "Het is jammer dat het zo loopt met Joris en Suently, maar wij moeten de play-offs in met spelers die tot op het bot gemotiveerd zijn om deze tot een goed einde te brengen", liet technisch directeur Remco Oversier weten op de clubsite.

NEC speelt op 10 mei de eerste play-off-wedstrijd op bezoek bij FC Emmen. Drie dagen later is de return. Inzet is promotie naar de Eredivisie. Vorig seizoen degradeerde NEC naar de Jupiler League.

Update 11.14: Delle heeft via Instagram gereageerd op de berichtgeving. 'We hebben er samen over gesproken en ik respecteer de beslissing van de technische staf', schrijft de Franse sluitpost, die ook ontkent dat hij zijn carrière wil beëindigen. 'Ik denk dat ik nog een aantal jaren de tijd heb om daarover na te denken.'

 

Many things have been said about my situation. I just want to clarify things a little bit. A lot of questions were put to me by messages, I will try to answer them. The technical staff made the decision to tackle the playoffs without me. The fact of not being part of the group was therefore the consequence of this choice which does not belong to me. We all discussed this decision together and I respect their choice, as I respect the staff and all the work they have done since the beginning of the season. I spent two seasons here, I knew, like you, the joy of the victories, the sadness of the relegation, the frustration of certain results but it did not happen a day without that I give 100% of me - even for this jersey, even in difficult times, and there have been! Supporters are passionate, even sometimes too much ... the relationship between players and fans has sometimes been tumultuous but today there is a common goal, winning these playoffs. I become the first fan of my teammates and I hope that you, supporters, will support them in the best way it is. Regarding the follow-up to my career, I read that some people were already putting an end to it ... I think I still have a few years before me to think about it. Thank you I wish you the best!
